How to Safely Jump Start Another Car

The ability to jump start a car with another only requires you to have jumper cables, gloves, glasses, and a wire brush.
  • Bring the nose of the running car to the other, open the hoods and turn off the engine.
  • Clean off any corrosion you find on the battery terminals.
  • Place the red cables on the positive sides to the dead battery then the good battery.
  • Place the black cables on the good batter negative side, then any metal exposed surface on the car being jumped.
  • Now it is safe to start the car and wait a few minutes. After revving the engine, try starting the other car.
  • Once the car starts, you can remove the cables in the opposite way they were placed on the cars and then close the hoods.
